Time: 5pm

Place: Lake Terraces, Towns End, Grasmere

Visual: A photograph of trees and a driveway, captured in the gardens of Tweedies, Grasmere. Originally posted as an Instagram story, the image features the following text:

“…excited to be back in Grasmere for a short stay to work on some creative practice for my PhD. For the past few months, I’ve been delving into the mystery and material of time, in poetry…”
“I’ve been reading so much, thinking so much, trying to connect the worlds of strange physics, ecology, cybernetics, language, embodiment, breath… All in the attempt to offer a novel form of poetic temporality, and think about the question of what “Wordsworthian Time” looks like. Needless to say, I get stuck in my head a lot but but being here loosens the grip of time’s inevitable anxieties in magical ways.”

Studio Notes:

I arrive at Grasmere around 3:30pm, and spend the afternoon unpacking and settling into my accomodation. I set up a piano, fill the drawers with clothes, and enjoy the spaciousness of the room. I have a desk to work at, a comfortable bed, and now some time ahead of me.

I take a short walk from Town’s End into Grasmere to take a few photographs while the evening light is still good. The village is quiet now, pierced only by low-flying jets that fly overhead a number times in a day when the weather is clear.
