A selection of sonic sketches and compositions produced in Grasmere and Hereford over the Spring and Summer of 2024. The motivation for these periods of practice, to get into a ‘prototyping’ mode and produce one full musical idea per day in order to figure a way to translate textual images into sound. These compositions work to produce a ‘bed’ for reflection, writing, drawing, and reading.
The time signature is unstructured, focusing (at this stage) on subjective interpretation of temporalities and key textual excerpts from the The Prelude. Sounds featured include my voice (as an instrument), piano, synthesised orchestras and understories.
Questions: Does the sound embody the seasonality of the time? (May – August). Is there something of the poetic image in the musical interpretation? How can sound open (a) door into a world, for a listener? How can music and sound support further visual experiments in a research context? What anarchival data is produced in the composition process, in listening, in dissemination, in reflection?
Recommendation: Listen with headphones, and click on links for the context of production.
